The countdown has started

At this point it looks like my assignment will be up at the end of October. For the past couple years I've been working my booty off for the company, feeling what it's like to be a real downtrodden salaryman. Now that the deadline's approaching, I feel the panic of someone who's procrastinated too long—I need to actually have fun before I leave! I'll be taking 3-day weekends here and there and going places, I think. Definitely need to hit Kyoto again, and see Nara. There's Okinawa and Hokkaido, and I'd like to go back to see Saihaku-cho again. For the overseas jaunts, Hong Kong, Singapore, or Korea?

Anyway, if you guys are up for hanging out, let's do it. Live it up, as they say!

Stupid Comment Spammers

I just noticed that I forgot to turn on the word verification feature on this blog, and a bunch of comment spam was getting added. The Christmas 2004 post had over 50 junk remarks, some of them recent. Spammers burn in hell!

Reminds me of this exchange I had with an early spammer. This was back in 1995 when spam first started being a problem. This guy annoyed me with some junk, so I told him to quit sending me crap (this was before automated tools) and he sent me something vulgar back, to the effect he was a "gay, communist, atheist spammer". Basically I sent the guy these nasty emails until he quit. Too bad that doesn't work anymore.

Winter Sports

Anyone interested in going snowboarding or skiing before the season is up? Reply here or drop me an email if so.

Anyone reading this anymore? I must admit I've been negligent. Too many things going on to really keep up or plan things in advance.

Incidentally, I'll probably be in Japan until the end of September or thereabouts.

Thanks guys!

I'm back home in Ohio now. It was good seeing some of you guys (and finally meeting Noel) before I left. I had lots of fun in Japan and you guys made it even better. Thanks guys! Miss you lots!

Keep your July 4th open

I'll mention this early so interested parties have plenty of advance notice. July 4th is a BBQ at ::G's Pad. OSU folks are invited (tight tomodachi in tow are ok) and I may possibly have some work folk here, who knows. Drop me a line at the usual address so I know if you're in or out.

July 4th is a Monday this year, but I plan on bailing from work at an unheard of early hour—17:30. Still, that means most people will only have about 5 hrs here. This point is open for discussion: would everyone prefer a Sunday event? I intend to barbeque on Monday anyway, but as for gatherings, the day before may be better. Make your preference known (especially if you live far from my place).

Edit: The BBQ will be on Saturday evening (7/2). Nobody's available on the 4th, it seems. I'll probably cook out again then anyway: gotta do my part to be a good American, woo-hoo!! Dammit, why couldn't the 4th have fallen on a better day of the week.
